A 28-year-old man was shot twice Thursday while in a vehicle in Fresno.

The incident happened just before 7 p.m. at Santa Ana Avenue and First Street, just across from Fashion Fair Mall. The victim was in a vehicle with a passenger when at least five suspects confronted them, Fresno police Lt. Alfonso Castillo said.

Castillo said an argument took place when one of the suspects pulled out a gun and started firing at the vehicle, striking the driver.

Officers located the victims and determined the driver had a graze wound. The victim wasn’t taken to the hospital. He was cooperative, Castillo said.

“This has nothing to do with Fashion Fair Mall,” Castillo said. “We got a good statement from our victim. They hadn’t left Fashion Fair Mall. They were here for different reasons when they encountered that group. The suspects were never in the mall. This is an isolated incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 559-621-7000.
