Woman stabbed, choked during assault in Fresno, police say. Son helped his mom

A man is in jail after an assault on a woman in Fresno on Thursday night.

Officers responded at 8:40 p.m. in the 1300 block of E. San Ramon Avenue regarding a stabbing. Officers arrived and found the victim with a stab wound on her leg.

Police said a disturbance took place between the victim and the suspect, who approached the woman with a wooden stick. During the disturbance, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim and began choking her. The victim’s son pulled the suspect off her and left in a vehicle and drove a few blocks.

The suspect crashed into a wrought iron fence in the 5100 block of N. Sixth Street. The suspect fled but was detained a short distance away.

The victim is expected to be OK.
