Man arrested on Edison High campus in Fresno for alleged sex crimes with minor

A 24-year-old man was arrested on the Edison High campus in Fresno this week for alleged sex crimes against a minor.

Juanya Ameer Johnson was placed in handcuffs at 2 p.m. Wednesday and taken to the Fresno County Jail. He is suspected of four felony charges: two instances of oral copulation, sexual penetration with a foreign object and false imprisonment with violence.

Fresno police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said the police department received a call of a sexual assault on Wednesday. Detectives confirmed of a sexual assault had occurred and arrested Johnson.

The victim told police the sexual acts occurred between the two.

“We can’t provide details on the victim due to the nature of the investigation,” Trueba Vega said.

It’s not clear where the alleged assaults happened.

Fresno Unified School District released a statement after the arrest and didn’t specify Johnson’s role on campus, who will no longer be on any FUSD campuses.

“Fresno Unified was informed that an individual contracted through a partner organization providing services in our district was arrested on charges related to sexual assault. This person is not a district employee. We take student safety extremely seriously — all employees and contracted personnel undergo background checks before working on any of our campuses. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and have support systems in place for any students or staff in need,” the statement read.

As of Friday morning, Johnson remained in jail on $75,000 bail.
