18-year-old shot to death in Clovis McDonald’s parking lot identified

An 18-year-old was shot and killed Wednesday night in the McDonald’s parking lot in Clovis.

Clovis Police spokesperson Ty Wood said the shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. at Willow and Nees at the Willow Station shopping center.

Officers arrived and found the victim with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Thursday morning identified the victim as Caleb Quick.

Quick attended Clovis Online School, which is a charter program that is not affiliated with a specific high school campus.

What led up to the shooting and possible motive are under investigation.

The suspect was described to be wearing black clothing, including a pullover hoodie, who fled on foot in an unknown direction with a gun.

Clovis Unified released a statement Thursday morning saying Quick previously attended Buchanan High.

“The news that one of our Clovis Online School students was the victim of a shooting last night hits our student and educational community hard, and our hearts go out to his family and loved ones,” Clovis Unified superintendent Corrine Folmer said.

“The student who was killed was a current senior at our charter school Clovis Online School and previously attended Buchanan High School. We are a connected community, and we know that students across our campuses may be personally impacted or have witnessed this incident. Today, we have taken extra steps to support our students with emotional wellness resources on campus along with extra campus police officers on many of our school sites to assure our parents of the safety of our schools. Our schools have also provided information to parents about support available to their children.”

The Clovis Hills Community Church, meanwhile, will hold an open prayer room in the north campus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., located at 759 W. International in room 302.

“In light of last night’s tragedy, we will have an open house from 10am-5pm for any students, parents, school faculty or family members in need of prayer or counseling,” the church wrote.

Anyone with information is asked to call police 559-324-2800 or can call Valley Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
