Update: Victim shot and killed ID’d by Fresno coroner. Deputies say teen is arrested
A man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon at a Fresno County apartment.
The shooting happened at 1:10 p.m. on the property of the Orchard Village Apartment Complex, located at 1555 South Avenue in Orange Cove.
Orange Cove Police arrived five minutes later and officers were directed inside an apartment unit, deputies said.
A 34-year-old man, identified by the coroner as Rudy Veloz, was found with multiple gunshot wounds who was conscious. An ambulance took Veloz to Reedley Hospital where he later died.
Police worked to identify the shooting suspect and developed information about a 16 year old boy and where he might be, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Botti said.
The Sheriff’s helicopter directed patrol deputies to him a short distance from the apartments and they took the teen into custody.
The suspect and victim did know each other, but a motive has not been established, Botti said.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is investigating.
