Man shot and killed after a disturbance in Fresno. A teen was also shot, police say

A shooting Sunday in Fresno left a man dead and a teenager hospitalized, police said.

Fresno police said the shooting happened about 11:20 a.m. An officer heard shots fired in the Ashlan and Fruit area and went to investigate. He found a man in his 30s with a gunshot wound, Lt. Steve Card said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police said they received several calls that there had been a disturbance between the victim and several other people who might know one another, Card said.

While officers were investigating the shooting, a call came in about another shooting victim at Norwich and Feland avenues. The teen was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, police said.

“We’re working on that, as the individual may have been involved,” Card said.

Card said that one suspect in the fatal shooting jumped into a vehicle and fled before police arrived.

Several witnesses told officers they saw portions of the incident and are cooperating.

Detectives are canvassing for surveillance video.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 559-621-7000.
