Pedestrian injured after truck strikes him in a hit-and-run collision, Fresno police say

A pedestrian was injured Sunday night after a vehicle struck him at a bus stop.

Officers with the Fresno Police Department responded around 5:30 p.m. to South Maple and East Church avenues about a traffic collision with a truck that ended up in the side of TJ Food ‘N’ Liquor store, Lt. Zeb Price said.

Witnesses told officers that a dark-colored sedan was traveling southbound on Maple when the driver collided into the rear end of a pickup truck. The truck lost control and crashed into the side of the building, Price said

A 45-year-old man was standing next to the bus bench when he was struck by the truck, Price said.

The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition. The driver of the truck was not injured, Price said.

Officers located markings of the vehicle that was involved in the hit-and-run collision. The suspect had fled the scene before he was later detained at another location.

The Fresno Fire Department was on scene to carefully remove the truck from the building.

“There is some concern about the structural integrity of the building and Fresno Fire will be assessing what needs to occur for that building to be supported as we remove the truck.”

No one in the liquor store was injured, Price said.
