Woman hurt in Fresno apartment complex shooting. Child’s window also hit
A woman remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon after she was shot at a Fresno apartment complex, where multiple units also were hit by the gunfire in the late-morning incident.
Fresno police Lt. Israel Reyes said the shooting happened at 11:20 a.m. at Legacy Commons, 2255 South Plumas Ave., near Edison High.
Officers arrived and found a woman in her early 20s who had a gunshot wound to her right thigh.
She was taken to the hospital, listed in stable condition and was being interviewed by officers, Reyes said.
Reyes said the woman was walking with two men to an apartment when they were confronted by two men in the breezeway. One person wearing a ski mask fired multiple rounds at the group, striking the woman.
Multiple apartments were struck by gunfire, Reyes said.
Officers have minimal descriptions of the suspects, who fled the area.
Reyes said one of the units that was struck had people inside at the time.
“Very fortunate that we didn’t have multiple victims of a homicide today,” Reyes said. “The family there says they usually have several children in their house and one of the windows that was struck belonged to one of the children. We’re very fortunate that they weren’t there today.”
Reyes said at least 10 rounds were fired.
It’s unknown if there were other people outside when the gunfire broke out, he said.
