Pedestrian fatality

Authorities are looking for a vehicle they believe is involved in a fatal hit-and-run earlier this month in Fresno.

Officers went to Shields Avenue and Wilson Avenue at 3:48 a.m. Jan. 5 for a traffic collision.

Police said the victim, later identified as 70-year-old Fernando Gutierrez of Fresno, was crossing Shields when a vehicle struck him in in the westbound lanes.

Gutierrez died Jan. 6 at Community Regional Medical Center, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office reported Thursday.

Police said the suspect vehicle was last seen northbound on Wilson from Shields.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction and Hit & Run detectives responded to the scene and said they believe the suspect vehicle to be a two-door vehicle, similar to a Dodge Challenger.

Police released surveillance photo of a 2-door vehicle, similar to a Dodge Challenger, they believe is involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision on Jan. 5, 2023.
