AutoZone employee in Fresno injured after confrontation with fleeing theft suspect

An auto parts store employee was injured Friday evening in Fresno after attempting to stop a suspect from taking off with an item.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened just after 7 p.m. at the AutoZone at Cedar and Clinton avenues.

Deputies said the suspect took a battery before fleeing to a vehicle and leaving the area. An employee attempted to recover the item by chasing the suspect and cut his hand during the getaway.

Deputies said it was not known how the employee injured his hand, whether against the vehicle or breaking the window in an attempt to get the item.

The employee was expected to be OK.
