Fresno County jail officer accused of rape and sodomy enters plea in Madera court

A Fresno County Jail corrections officer entered a not guilty plea Monday against charges of rape and sodomy in Madera County.

Jeremy Gerard Cuthbert, 36, of Oakhurst is accused of the sex crimes with a known acquaintance on Feb. 15 in a Madera County residence, according to investigators.

He entered the not guilty plea to eight counts, including rape and sodomy by force or fear and for the act happening when the victim was too intoxicated to consent, court records show.

Cuthbert is employed at the Fresno County Jail, a sheriff’s spokesperson confirmed. He has been placed on leave and is the subject of an internal affairs investigation.

Cuthbert was hired in 2019.

He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $1.2 million bail, Madera County Jail records show. His attorney was not immediately available for comment.
