Bicyclist killed by DUI suspect east of Clovis named. Suspect faces manslaughter charge

A bicyclist killed Wednesday night east of Clovis by an alleged drunk driver was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner.

The California Highway Patrol said that Peter Binz, 33 of Clovis, died about 7 p.m. when he was struck by the driver of a pickup while he was riding west on Herndon Avenue east of Locan Avenue.

He was hit from behind by the pickup, which the CHP said was driven by Jonathan Petty, 36, of Clovis.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said that Petty left the scene of the crash, and drove home.

“Uninvolved parties” then contacted the CHP, who arrested Petty at the home.

Petty was booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of driving under the influence, hit and run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.
