Teenager arrested in Visalia school shooting hoax. Police to step up campus patrols

Breaking news

A 16-year-old male was arrested Sunday in connection with a suspected school shooting hoax in Visalia, police said.

Police on Sunday also said they were investigating a “new threat” on social media and planned to step up security this week at city schools as a precaution. Officers did not elaborate on the second reported threat.

The 16-year-old male was arrested at this home on suspicion of making criminal threats and falsely reporting an emergency in connection with what investigators described as a hoax shooting threat that Redwood High would be attacked on Monday.

He was booked into Juvenile Hall Detention Facility.

“The safety of our children is our first priority and anything that threatens that will not be tolerated,” police said in a statement. “All threats will be taken seriously and those posting such threats will face both legal charges and school discipline charges.”
