Man killed after Camaro crashes into Bitwise 41 in Fresno. Police say beer cans found in car

UPDATE: Passenger killed in crash into Bitwise building in downtown Fresno identified

A man was killed Saturday night and another injured when their vehicle slammed into the Bitwise 41 building in downtown Fresno.

Fresno Police Lt. Charlie Chamalbide said a black Chevrolet Camaro crashed around 11:40 p.m. on R Street, just north of Ventura Street.

The passenger, who was in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 25-year-old driver was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Chamalbide said a witness told officers that the vehicle was going at a high rate of speed on Ventura when the driver lost control at the intersection and collided with a wall at the Bitwise 41 building at 2721 Ventura St.

Detectives with the collision reconstruction unit were at the scene.

“There were some indicators that alcohol was a factor,” Chamalbide said. “There were some beer cans inside the car, but we don’t know if the passenger was drinking or the driver was drinking.”
