Two stabbed outside Fresno High School, police said. The incident involved students

Two people were stabbed outside Fresno High School on Wednesday in an incident involving students, police said.

Two Fresno High students and another minor were involved in a confrontation about 8:30 a.m. on Echo and Wilson avenues, which is on the north side of Fresno High, as they arrived to the school, Sgt. Chris Desmond said.

It was not immediately clear if the third minor was a student at the high school, police said.

One of the students was detained after he stabbed the two others with an unknown object, Desmond said.

They had non-life threatening injuries but were transported to a local hospital.

The violence did not appear to be gang-related but rather stemmed from some kind of “high school issue,” Desmond said.

Officer Felipe Uribe said detectives were trying to work out which of the teens was the aggressor and which was the victim.

Fresno Unified School District works with police for any investigations, including the stabbing from Wednesday, according to Nikki Henry, the chief communications officer for the district.

School leaders will determine if any disciplinary action is necessary, she said, adding the outcome will be confidential because of student privacy laws.

“We have already deployed our social emotional supports for any witnesses to this altercation (students or staff) and we have arranged for additional safety supports today and for the next couple of days as well,” she said in an email.
