Pedestrian killed in seventh fatal crash in Fresno this year. Driver could not stop
A man walking in the roadway in southwest Fresno was struck and killed by a car Tuesday night, the second car-pedestrian fatality in two nights in Fresno.
The fatality took place at 9:24 p.m. on Elm Avenue near California Avenue, said Lt. Leslie Williams. She said a woman was driving a Nissan Altima northbound, approaching California Avenue when she struck the man, who appeared to be in his 50s.
Williams said the driver was unable to avoid colliding with the man, who apparently was crossing the roadway from east to west. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency workers. The driver remained at the scene and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
It was the seventh fatal traffic collision in the city so far in 2023.
