Innocent bystander shot multiple times during gunfight in Fresno. Police seek shooters
A female bystander was struck by multiple bullets in a crossfire Friday in Fresno, police said.
The woman was near a truck about 9:45 a.m. in a parking lot at California and Pottle avenues before the gunfire, officer Felipe Uribe said.
Police do not believe she was connected to the shooters but was an innocent bystander who happened to be outside when two groups of people started a gun battle, he said.
Initial reports said two pedestrians and others in a car were shooting at each other, Uribe said.
She was shot multiple times in her legs, but her injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, police said. She was taken to an area hospital.
The department’s ShotSpotter gunfire sensor notified officers of gunfire and a 911 caller reported the woman was hit, Uribe said.
Two men were seen fleeing the area, but Uribe said it was not immediately clear if they were the shooters or just running from the sound of gunfire.
