UPDATE: Woman accused of fatal hit-and-run of bicyclist in Visalia turns herself in, CHP says
Officers are asking for help to find a woman they say struck and killed a bicycle rider and fled the scene in Visalia, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
The hit-and-run suspect was identified as Shay Dejonge, 31, of Visalia, according to the CHP.
She was allegedly driving a gray 2012 Mazda headed south on Avenue 144 south of Avenue 313 about 1 p.m. Saturday when for an undetermined reason she struck a 25-year-old man on a bike, CHP said.
The man later died at the hospital, CHP said.
Officers received a number of tips about seeing a Mazda that fit the car in the crash, CHP said.
The tips led officers at 4 p.m. that day to a location in Visalia though CHP was not specific about where.
When officers knocked on the door, the person fled through the back of the home, CHP said, eluding arrest.
The CHP impounded the car, which had damage matching the scene of the crash.
The Visalia CHP office has asked anyone with information to call 559-734-6767.
