A Fresno County man was identified Friday as the shooter who killed his father and injured other relatives as they prepared for a family party the previous day, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a trailer home in the area of Cedar and Clarkson avenues, just east of Highway 41 and about 12 miles west of Kingsburg, deputies said.

The home has a Selma address, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said 22-year-old Eduardo Amaya killed his father, Marco Amaya Diaz, 55, and shot his 48-year-old mother and 27-year-old sister.

The mother remained in critical condition, and the sister was listed in serious condition, the Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Amaya fled the home and ran into a nearby orchard, also firing at another man outside the trailer, deputies said. That man was not struck, nor were a toddler and teenager at the home during the shooting.

Deputies searching for the shooter were guided by a sheriffs’ helicopter crew, who found the suspect running through the orchard, deputies said, and he was arrested.

Amaya faces one charge of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and two counts of child endangerment, according to a news release.

Anyone with additional information is asked by deputies to contact Homicide Detective Jesse Gloria at 559-600-8217. You may also anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867, www.valleycrimestoppers.org.
