Woman’s vehicle struck by gunfire during drive-by shooting in Tower District

A moving vehicle was struck by gunfire Thursday night during a drive-by shooting on a busy street in Tower District.

Officers received a Shot Spotter alert of four rounds fired around 8 p.m. in the area of Olive and Safford Avenues, according to Fresno police Lt. Ignacio Ruiz.

Officers arrived and found a woman’s vehicle struck by a bullet in the windshield.

Police learned that a group of people had been walking west on Olive when the passenger of a dark color sedan drove by them and opened fire.

At the same time, a woman was driving in the opposite direction when her windshield was struck by a bullet.

Ruiz said no one was injured in the shooting. The group that was shot at fled the area before police arrived.

Olive Avenue was closed off as officers investigated the area.
