Fresno County woman booked on DUI charges after 8-year-old boy in car dies in solo crash

An Orange Cove woman was booked on felony DUI charges early Thursday after the car she was driving slammed into a power pole and a boy in the vehicle died, the California Highway Patrol reported.

It was not immediately known if the woman, Sabrina Elizondo, 28, was related to the child, who was also from Orange Cove.

The crash took place at 4:39 a.m. on Porter Avenue and Avenue 432.

The CHP said Elizondo was southbound on Porter in a Honda Accord approaching 432 when she failed to yield at a stop sign and hit the pole. Elizondo suffered major injuries and the child was killed. Elizondo was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, but was also booked on the charges.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP Visalia office at 559-734-6767.
