Victim identified in Fresno’s 62nd homicide of year. He was shot watching TV at home
The Fresno Police Department on Tuesday asked for the public’s help solving the Monday night homicide in central Fresno.
The man who was killed was identified as 61-year-old Gonzalo Ramirez.
Police said the shooting happened around 11:36 p.m. in the 1400 block of East Clinton Avenue.
Responding officers found Ramirez suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper body. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives learned Ramirez was inside his home when an unknown gunman fired toward the home from outside, striking Ramirez.
Ramirez was sitting in the living room watching television when the shot was fired and the bullet went through a mail slot next to the front door and struck him, Fresno police Lt. Larry Bowlan said. Ramirez’s wife was in the living room at the time of the shooting. Other family members, including children, were inside the home.
Police said it is unknown if Ramirez was the intended target.
It was the city’s 62nd homicide of 2021. Anyone who has information is asked to call police at 559-621-7000.
