Fresno police detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that took place just after midnight Tuesday at the Campus Pointe center near Fresno State.

According to police, 22-year-old Frank Sierras was found shot in his car which had crashed into a parking structure of the Palazzo at Campus Pointe student housing complex. Sierras was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives determined that the shooting happened in a parking lot of the adjacent Campus Pointe retail area and Sierras was able to drive a short distance before crashing the white compact car.

Investigators are not releasing the motive for the shooting at this time, police said.

Police worked an extensive crime scene near North Chestnut and East Shaw avenues as they combed the area for evidence.

It’s the city’s 38th homicide of 2021. At this time last year there were 18 homicides.
