One dead among three men shot in separate overnight Fresno shootings, police say

Fresno police are investigating two separate shootings, including one with a fatality, that happened Wednesday evening.

Officers first responded to a call of shots fired around 11 p.m. at the Days Inn, located at South Second Street and Jensen Avenue in southwest Fresno.

Fresno Police Lt. Anthony DeWall said officers arrived and found a man with a non-life threatening wound to the leg. Officers then learned a man was dropped off at Community Regional Center with a gunshot wound to his upper chest. He later died from his wounds.

DeWall said the victim rented a room on the second floor and had two women with him when someone knocked on the door. The man told officers that eight men broke into the room and a fight started before shots were fired.

Lt. DeWall said the second man who later died “may have been shot during that confrontation.”

“We’re trying to determine that the second victim at the hospital is our suspect,” DeWall said.

He was dropped off by an unknown vehicle. The man was identified as 19-year-old Adrian Vindiola of Fresno.

Lt. DeWall said homicide detectives plan to obtain a search warrant and gather evidence. Police don’t believe the victim in the room was armed.

Shot in the head at gas station

While officers were at the hospital with the man who was shot in the leg, another man was dropped off around midnight and walked into the hospital with a life-threatening wound to the head.

DeWall said the victim was shot at a Beacon gas station at West Shields and North Marks avenues, west of Highway 99.

Officers are investigating the shooting and found shell casings in the gas station parking lot and across the street on Shields.

“We’re trying to determine if this was an exchange of gunfire or if the suspects started a distance away then closed their distance and also fired when they were close to the victim,” DeWall said.

The gas station was closed at the time and the clerk told officers he didn’t see anything, but heard a loud bang.

The gas station has surveillance cameras, DeWall said, and detectives will look at the videos to see what led up to the shooting.

There were no ShotSpotter alerts or 911 calls about the incident at the Beacon location.

The two shootings are unrelated, DeWall said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
