Two injured in car-to-car shooting in southeast Fresno, police say
Two people were shot Thursday night in southeast Fresno and taken to Community Regional Medical Center, Fresno police reported.
Police spokesman Jeff La Blue said that shootings in the city are up 81 percent since early April. He said police believe surgeons at CRMC are the only reason that there has not been a spike in homicides. And the upsurge in shootings is probably due to gang activity, he added.
The Thursday shooting took place on East Belmont Avenue near North Chestnut Avenue just before 10:30 p.m.
La Blue said that a man and a woman were in a car when they were fired on by another vehicle. A separate car was also struck when an estimated nine rounds were fired. Shell casings from two separate weapons were recovered and the driver of the suspect vehicle fled east on Belmont.
