Fresno man, 60, killed in collision after vehicle flips at least three times, is ID’d
This story has been updated to add the victim’s name and age.
A 60-year-old Fresno man died in a hit-and-run collision Thursday evening in the Kerman area and the driver of the other car is being sought, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP responded to the collision about 6:30 p.m. at Shields and Howard avenues, just east of Kerman. A 2001 silver Toyota Corolla heading southbound on Howard Avenue struck the 60-year-old’s Chevrolet Blazer on the left, rear side, CHP spokesman Mike Salas said. The Blazer was eastbound on Shields and had the right-of-way at the intersection, which is a two-way stop for traffic on Howard.
The impact caused the Blazer to overturn at least three times. Its driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the SUV, Salas said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified Friday as Randy Estrada of Fresno.
(Earlier information provided by authorities had the man’s age as 70, but it was corrected to 60 on Friday.)
Salas said the Corolla driver took off from the scene driving southbound on Howard.
Investigators recovered a partial license plate of the Corolla near the scene.
Salas said there is no connection between the Corolla involved in Thursday’s crash and a similar car involved in a fatal hit-and-run Wednesday just south of Fresno.
Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP at 559-262-0400.
