Retired Hanford lieutenant in jail on rape allegations

A retired Hanford police lieutenant was booked into Kings County jail on alleged rape charges, according to a Kings County booking report.

George Hernandez, 56, was charged with sexual penetration with force/fear, sexual battery and false imprisonment.

He was arrested Wednesday morning by Hanford police.

Hernandez retired from the police force on Aug. 31, 2017. He worked in the department for 29 years.

He was highly regarded by his peers, according to a story by the Hanford Sentinel.

Hernandez remains in custody with his bail set at $175,000
