Man shot in central Fresno, but he makes his own 911 call for help

A man in his mid-30s was found Saturday evening in central Fresno having apparently been shot at least twice but able to make his own 911 call for help, police said.

Officers went to the 3300 block of East Normal Avenue at East Mayfair Drive about 5:30 p.m. after the report of a victim with wounds to his upper chest and arm.

Lt. Bill Dooley said it was the victim himself who called 911 to report he had been shot. He was at the front of his home when officers arrived.

The 36-year-old was treated at the scene before being taken to Community Regional Medical Center. He was listed in critical condition.

Detectives were trying to get information on what led up to the shooting, Dooley said, going door-to-door trying to locate witnesses and find surveillance cameras.

There were no reports of anyone seeing or hearing the shooting actually taking place in the area, Dooley said. No shell casings were found.

The investigation is ongoing.
