Fresno couple holding a baby is shot at while on their porch in southwest Fresno, police say

A couple and a 1-year child barely avoided tragedy Thursday night when a gunman opened fired at them in southwest Fresno, police said.

The shooting happened at the Fairview Heights Terrace apartments in the 2200 block of South Lee Avenue around 9 p.m., Lt. Tim Tietjen said.

Witnesses said a man with dreadlocks opened fire on the couple and came close to hitting them.

Tietjen said there were at least seven shots — six into the apartment building and one on a vehicle. The gunman fled on foot in an unknown direction, Tietjen said.

A motivate for the shooting has yet to be determined and the investigation was ongoing.
