Death in Kingsburg remains a mystery. Autopsy shows bullet victim had a bullet wound

JUNE 5 UPDATE: An autopsy shows that Gary Banks, 30, of Fresno also suffered a gunshot wound when his body was discovered by police, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Kingsburg police officers found Banks in the early hours of May 11 in the road near the intersection of East Clarkson and 12th avenues. He had been struck by multiple vehicles, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives continue to piece together events leading up to his death and are requesting to speak with anyone who may have heard gunshots in the area.

Banks was last seen around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, May 10 (Mother’s Day) at the intersection of Clark and 10th Avenue.

ORIGINAL: Fresno County Sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help learning the circumstances of a man’s death in Kingsburg this week.

The case is full of twists. The victim, 30-year-old Gary Banks of Fresno, was originally identified as being from Kingsburg where he was found dead a little after midnight Monday.

The cause of Banks’ death and his actions in his final hours are murky.

Banks’ body was found by Kingsburg police on the road at Clarkson Avenue and 12th Avenue. He had been struck by a vehicle and police called it hit and run.

Investigators later said it was suspicious circumstances and turned the case over to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives collected surveillance video that showed Banks walking along East Clarkson Avenue between 6th Avenue Drive and 12th Avenue around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Detectives said Banks was wearing a red shirt and later wasn’t wearing a shirt.

The description of the vehicle that hit him is not known.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with surveillance video or who saw Banks between 11 p.m. to midnight in the areas around Kingsburg Cemetery, Heritage Park, and Mehlert Street to contact Detective Freddie Henson at 559-600-8208.
