Fresno police undercover detectives in pursuit that reaches nearly 100 mph before crash on 99

A car chase involving undercover detectives lasted about 10 minutes on Monday afternoon and reached nearly 100 mph before coming to an end with a crash on southbound Highway 99 in Fowler, Fresno police said.

Sgt. Jeff La Blue, spokesman for the Fresno Police Department, said a 16-year-old who was in the car was taken into custody after the crash and is a suspect in a June 2019 fatal shooting in northeast Fresno.

La Blue said the chase started around 3:20 p.m. and the pursuit came to an end about 10 minutes later, traveling from freeways in Fresno before heading south out of the city, ending south of Merced Street in Fowler with the suspect car crashing.

La Blue said no other details of the June 2019 homicide were immediately available.

There were multiple occupants in the car involved in the pursuit, La Blue said, and detectives were questioning them at the crash scene about their possible involvement with the homicide.
