Alleged DUI driver going 100 mph causes a chain of collisions on Hwy 180 in Fresno, CHP says

Seven vehicles were part of a chain reaction of crashes Saturday night along Highway 180, started by a man who allegedly was driving under the influence and going 100 miles per hour, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collisions caused standstill traffic on westbound 180 near the Highway 168 interchange, and closed the freeway for at least an hour.

CHP said the alleged DUI driver rear-ended a vehicle at a high speed and more crashes followed.

The DUI driver’s car ended up catching on fire after going onto an embankment

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

A woman in a different vehicle was treated at a Selma hospital for minor injuries.

The DUI man was expected to be booked into Fresno County jail. His name was not immediately released.
