Man who gave directions to random car is shot multiple times in central Fresno, police say

A man who had given directions to a random car ended up getting shot multiple times in central Fresno and is in critical condition, police said.

Fresno police Lt. Bill Dooley said the man and his friend were walking home from a mini mart around 6 p.m. Saturday when a car pulled up next to them, and a passenger in the vehicle asked for directions near the intersection of Park and Belmont avenues.

The car started driving away then suddenly went in reverse, with the driver popping out and firing multiple shots at the man, Dooley added.

The victim, who is in his late 20s, suffered several gunshot wounds to his lower torso and was taken to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center, where he was undergoing surgery.

Police are searching for the shooter.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a silver, four-door sedan.
