Police investigate early morning shooting in southwest Fresno

A man in his 20s was taken to the hospital after an early-morning shooting Thursday in southwest Fresno, police reported.

The shooting took place about 7 a.m. on South Arthur Avenue and West Woodward Avenue.

Sgt. David Wilkin said the victim was walking with several other people when someone in a white vehicle opened fire on the group.

The victim, who appeared to suffer a wound to his hand, ran to a relative’s home about a half-mile north on Woodward and West Eden Avenue, where he eventually was treated by paramedics.

Wilkin said investigators recovered about eight shell casings at the shooting scene.
