Sanger man killed in collision. Suspected drunken driver jailed

A 71-year-old man is dead and a 44-year-old woman is in jail facing drunk-driving charges after a weekend crash, the Sanger Police Department reported.

It happened Friday around 9:30 p.m. in the area of 8th Street and Academy Avenue, Sgt. Joshua Johnson said.

David Pinedo of Sanger was in a crosswalk on Academy when he was hit by a northbound car driven by Vivian Lugo, police reported. Officers found Pinedo lying in the road. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Lugo remained at the scene where she was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested, Johnson said.
