Father and son arrested in Fresno’s second homicide case of the year

Fresno police arrested a father and son Friday in the second homicide case of 2020, according to a news release.

Jesus Serena Sr., 43, and his son, Jesse Serena Jr., 23, were taken into custody on suspicion of killing 43-year-old Florentino Higuera on Jan. 11.

Police said Higuera was not the intended target in the southeast Fresno shooting, but it was not random. Police are not releasing the motive.

Higuera was found inside a home at 3862 E. McKenzie Ave. after he was shot through the front door around 1 p.m. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died, police said.

As of Saturday, the city is at four homicides, compared with last year’s six, according to police.
