Man shot after trying to record a fight from his balcony, Fresno police say

A man was shot in the neck after trying to video record a fight at an apartment complex on Sunday afternoon, according to Fresno police.

Officers arrived at the Ranchwood Condominiums on Lane and Chestnut avenues around 4:15 p.m. and found a 26-year-old man had been shot, said Lt. Bill Dooley.

The man was conscious and talking with officers, and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said the victim was shot after he went onto his balcony and started recording a fight that was happening outside his apartment between several men.

The men did not appreciate being recorded, Dooley said, and walked over to confront the victim. Words were exchanged and one of the men allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at the victim, hitting him in the neck.

The men all fled the area after the shooting, Dooley said.

Officers were looking for the men and trying to find other witnesses.
