Drunken driver plows into crash scene, hits emergency vehicle in Visalia, CHP says

A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing into an emergency vehicle that was parked at a crash scene in Visalia early Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Magdeleno Perez was driving a 1993 Honda Accord south on Road 144 near St. John’s Parkway when the collision happened around 12:40 a.m., CHP said in a news release.

Perez, of Farmersville, failed to see an emergency vehicle from the Visalia Fire Department that was blocking the road in front of him, CHP said. The Chevy Tahoe had its lights on and was blocking the road due to a multiple-vehicle car crash that had just happened, CHP said. No one was inside at the time.

Perez’s Accord hit the back of the Tahoe, and he was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with major injuries.

Officers arrested Perez at the hospital and released him for treatment, CHP said.
