A man was arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing a homeless man near a Carl’s Jr. restaurant in central Fresno on Sunday night.
The suspect, Arthur Louis Hayes, 57, is suspected of killing Sirvon Beasley, 33, of Fresno. Beasley’s identity was released Tuesday by the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.
Hayes was identified by Fresno police as the murder suspect shortly after the stabbing, which occurred about 7 p.m. near Abby Street and Illinois Avenue. Hayes was arrested at an apartment complex in the 200 block of North Blackstone Avenue and booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of murder.
Police found Beasley lying on the sidewalk in front of a nearby Carl’s Jr. with wounds to his upper torso. He died at Community Regional Medical Center.
Witnesses said Beasley had entered the restaurant but was not able to pay for his food and and left, heading into an alley across the street. Witnesses said they heard a scream from the alley and that Beasley returned to the restaurant and collapsed on the sidewalk.
The fatal stabbing was the 52nd homicide in Fresno this year.
