Police identify man found shot on Fresno street on Friday
A man found shot and lying in the roadway of a central Fresno neighborhood died Friday, becoming the city’s 45th murder investigation. He was identified Saturday as Rahman Newsome, 21.
Police received reports of shots fired in the Mayfair Drive and Normal Avenue area just before 7 p.m., Sgt. Rudy Tafoya said. Police responded within minutes and found Newsome lying in the road on Normal Avenue east of Mayfair Boulevard.
Rahman was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the investigation is in its early stages and it is too early to determine how many wounds the victim had and how many suspects were involved in the shooting. The shooting was not gang-related, police said.
Tayofa said there were many witnesses, but there are conflicting accounts. In a separate shooting less than three miles away later Friday night, another man died after being shot at a home in east-central Fresno.
