The Fresno Police Department opened a murder investigation after a man was found with a gunshot injury Friday night and later died.
After receiving calls about a shot fired, officers went to a home on the 4800 block of East Normal Avenue in east-central Fresno and found Sonny Tran, 35, with a gunshot injury.
Police said Tran was outside his home with at least two other people when a shot was fired and he collapsed around 10:30 p.m. Tran died at Community Regional Medical Center after medical personnel rushed him there, police said.
The people who had been outside with Tran left before police arrived, and their identities are not known.

Police said the shooting is the city’s 46th murder, compared to 31 at the same time in 2016. In another shooting Friday less than 3 miles away, a 21-year-old man was also shot and killed.
