An anonymous tip helped Fresno police catch the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a Fresno man in his 20s.

The tipster led police to the location of the suspect’s vehicle, a 2000 red Chevy Silverado truck, and the driver, Jonathan Allen. Detectives made a traffic stop and arrested Allen for outstanding warrants. After interviewing him, police determined he was the driver in the hit-and-run collision. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail for felony hit and run and outstanding warrants.

Police had been looking for Allen since Aug. 27 when the crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. in central Fresno. Witnesses told police Allen’s vehicle was traveling south on Blackstone Avenue in the right lane near Griffith Way when the victim tried to cross the street in front of the Carl’s Jr. restaurant. The truck hit the victim, a Hispanic man in his 20s, as he was walking west across Blackstone.

Police said the driver fled the scene, heading south on Blackstone Ave. The victim, who has yet to be identified, died from his injuries.

Detectives released a photo of the suspect truck on Friday, urging the public to come forward with information about the truck or its owner.
