A 10-year-old girl was in very critical condition Friday following multiple surgeries overnight after she was struck by a car Thursday afternoon in southeast Fresno.

Lt. Joe Gomez provided additional details about the collision which occurred about 3 p.m. at Tulare Avenue and Seventh Street:

The girl had purchased a soda at a market shortly before the incident and was crossing Tulare Avenue. A car that was approaching from the west stopped for her and then an eastbound vehicle in the left eastbound lane did so, as well. However, the driver of a car in the right eastbound lane apparently did not see the girl and struck her.

The girl was dragged under the car before it stopped. Several citizens, including one with a car jack, managed to lift the vehicle off the girl, who was rushed to the hospital. The driver of the car involved in the collision was not cited for any violations.
