Threat to Clovis schools ‘not credible’ as bogus social media post continues to spread
A social media post about a threat to a Clovis school continued to circulate Monday, but law enforcement says it is not credible, according to the principal.
Two sites were put on alert Friday — Clovis East High and Reyburn Intermediate schools — after a social media post appeared to threaten students, officials said.
Those threats have been investigated and determined to be not credible by the Clovis Police Department, according to Principal Stephanie Hanks. The same unfounded threats continued to circulate on Monday, she said.
“We take the security and safety of our campus seriously and work closely with our police departments when these situations arise,” she said in a news release. “School continues to be open and we will remain vigilant as our students come to campus and prepare for a busy week of finals.”
Students at the Reagan Educational Center on campus at Clovis East High and Reyburn Intermediate schools remained in class after the school was placed on alert Friday at about 1:25 p.m.
Officials said that alert came out of an abundance of caution as authorities investigate the post “rumoring a threat to student safety.” During a facility alert students remain indoors and continue class, but movement outside of buildings is limited and students cannot be picked up from campus.
Students were released about 2:45 p.m., police said.
