Officers with the California Highway Patrol responded around 9:45 p.m. to the intersection of Avenue 17 and Road 28 1/2, where they found a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2019 Jeep Wrangler involved in the collision.
CHP said an 18-year-old Madera woman was driving the Chevrolet eastbound on Avenue 17, approaching Road 28 1/2, while a 25-year-old Madera woman was driving the Jeep southbound on Road 28 1/2 toward Avenue 17.
Traffic on Avenue 17 is controlled by stop signs, while traffic on Road 28 1/2 has the right-of-way.
CHP said the Chevrolet driver failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, where the car was struck on its front end by the Jeep’s right side.
The impact sent both vehicles southeast onto the front lawn of a nearby home, where they crashed through a chain-link fence, struck a parked white Chevrolet Colorado and hit a support post for the home’s front porch. The Jeep overturned before both vehicles came to rest on the property.
The 18-year-old Chevrolet driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 19-year-old man riding in the Chevrolet, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital. A 21-year-old woman who was also a passenger in the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries.
The Jeep driver and her 10-year-old passenger both suffered minor to moderate injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
CHP said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors.
