An 86-year-old North Fork man died in a crash on June 19 in Madera County.

The crash occurred at 8 p.m. on Highway 41, north of Highway 145.

California Highway Patrol officers said a 19-year-old from Fresno was driving a 2011 Mercedes E350 northbound on Highway 41, north of Highway 145, and the victim was riding a 2014 Harley-Davidson northbound on Highway 41, behind the Mercedes.

The Mercedes driver moved onto the right shoulder, intending to make a U-turn and proceed southbound, but he did not see the rider and collided with him, CHP said.

The rider was ejected. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. He later died. He was identified as Richard “Ed” Edward Tannehill.

The crash is under investigation, and CHP does not suspect alcohol or drugs.

CHP added that the teen was wearing his seat belt and Tannehill was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
