Married couple from Bay Area drowns at Kings Canyon National Park on Memorial Day
A married couple from the Bay Area drowned at Kings Canyon National Park in Central California during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Monday reported the victims — Parth Patel, 30, and Dharti Patel, 29, of San Mateo — were killed May 25.
A spokesperson for the National Park Service on Tuesday confirmed two deaths occurred over Memorial Day weekend in the Cedar Grove region of the park, which includes Roaring River Falls. The spokesperson said no additional details were available.
Online, the National Park Service warned visitors to exercise caution at the falls.
“Don’t be fooled if the pool appears calm and safe for swimming. The rocks are slippery and the currents below the surface of the water can easily drag you under. Drowning in rivers like this one is the most common cause of death in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks,” an NPS webpage on Roaring River Falls reads.
