One person was killed Thursday in a two-vehicle crash in southern Fresno County.

The crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. on Academy Avenue, north of Dinuba Avenue.

According to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Mike Salas, a Toyota Corolla was traveling north on Academy when, for unknown reasons, the driver allowed the vehicle’s right tires to travel onto the dirt shoulder.

The driver overcorrected to the left, causing the vehicle to travel across the road and into the path of a GMC Denali traveling south. The front of the GMC struck the right side of the Toyota.

Salas said the driver of the Toyota was wearing a seatbelt but wsa unresponsive. First responders performed CPR before taking the victim to Adventist Health Selma, where the driver was pronounced dead.

The GMC driver sustained minor injuries. A juvenile passenger in the GMC was taken to the hospital, and their status is unknown.

It was wunknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
