VIDEO: 57 firefighters respond to fire at former Fresno grocery store

A total of 57 firefighters responded to a fire at a former grocery store in Fresno.

The fire happened at the old Dollar General Market at Fruit and McKinley avenues around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Fresno Fire Department spokesperson Joshua Sellers said.

Sellers said the building is known to be frequented by unhoused people.

Boarded-up windows and other security measures, including doors that had been welded shut, was a challenge responding firefighters faced.

Fire extended into attic, impacting the roof’s structure. Firefighters monitored the building’s structural stability while extinguishing flames.

No injuries were reported, and the building was heavily damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
