School stowaway: Badger found hiding in Madera High storage closet

Madera High School proudly reps its coyote mascot, though a different wild animal is now the subject of on-campus conversation: a badger.

Staff found a badger hiding in an on-campus storage closet Tuesday.

Animal control officers responded to a call about the stowaway. After assessing the situation, they referred the matter to California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The badger was safely removed from his hiding place and returned to the wild. It’s unclear where it was released or how the badger got onto the campus.
